A beautiful but windy day, roaring Indy cars, and musical and dance performances by the Indy 500 Gordon Pipers all contributed to a successful event Wednesday (May 17) as the Indiana Manufactured Housing Association-Recreation Vehicle Indiana Council Inc. (IMHA-RVIC) held its 2nd annual “Day at the Track.”

More than 70 IMHA-RVIC members and guests gathered in the infield of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where they were able to view a pit stop practice and dozens of runs by Indy car drivers in preparation for the 101st running of the Indy 500.

“We enjoyed bagpipe and traditional dance performances by the Indy 500 Gordon Pipers and shared the all-access passes which allowed our guests into the pits and drivers’ garages while race teams prepared to qualify for the famed Indy 500,” said Matt Rose, director of recreation vehicle.

In addition, Jay Howard, the No. 77 Indy car driver, stopped by for a visit and pictures after finishing his practice laps for the day. Howard and his crew are working to qualify for his second Indy 500.

Members from both the MH and RV sides were well represented, along with many state officials, legislators and congressional staff members. Also joining the group were members from the state’s veterans organizations, working together with IMHA-RVIC to provide employment opportunities to Indiana’s veterans within our industries.

In attendance were: State Reps. Bob Cherry, R-Greenfield, and Doug Miller, R-Elkhart, along with Legislative Assistant Luke McNamee, and Press Secretary Hannah Carlock.

Other guests included: Jorge Ortiz, office of Sen. Joe Donnelly; James Brown, director, Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs; Matt Vincent, assistant director, Indiana Department of Veteran Affairs; State Rep. Dave Frizzell representing National Guard Association of Indiana; Mike Sturm, executive director, National Guard Association of Indiana; Kathie Turke, National Guard Association of Indiana; Scott Wolfe, National Guard Association of Indiana.
