Sisters Stay Busy At New 40-Acre Wash. Resort

Sisters Lynette Raden, Karen Giguere and Amy Cromer run Tahuya Adventure Resort.

For sisters Lynette Raden, Karen Giguere and Amy Cromer, retirement is overrated.

According to the Kitsap Sun, the sisters and Cromer’s husband, David, keep themselves busy post-retirement at the new Tahuya Adventure Resort, a 40-acre destination camping site in the middle of the lush Tahuya State Forest in Belfair, Wash.

Tahuya Adventure Resort has something to offer any type of camper — RV sites and tent sites are available for more traditional campers, but the siblings have built two luxury glamping-style tented cabins that offer heat, roomy space and comfort tucked away in the woods.

Four more cabins are in the works and the site also sports a covered pavilion, available to all the campers at no extra cost, with full kitchen services, a flat-screen television for game days and a renovated outhouse with a flush sink and upscale shower and sink.

“Retirement was a bore,” Raden, 70, said. “I had nothing going on and nothing to do. This is fun. I’ve always loved camping, but I like how this is camping that’s not cheek-to-jowl. There is space. You’re not on top of each other.”

The sisters grew up camping on the south fork of the Tilton River in Morton; their dad was a Boy Scout leader, but they didn’t think that only their brothers should have all the fun.

Tahuya Adventure Resort was the Cromers’ idea. They’ve spent years RVing in Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Washington and thought that staying in one space would be ideal.

Amy Cromer, 64, has worked for the cruise line Holland America, owned a travel agency and with her husband owns and maintains two sober-living homes, as well as several rental properties in Kitsap, King, Pierce and Lewis counties.

She decided to approach her sisters with the idea of going into business together because she knew they’d have something to offer.
