While the work continues on the new Oroville Dam spillway in Oroville, Calif., the deterioration of the old one continues to spark interest.

Jana Frazier, the tour guide at the Oroville Dam Visitors Center on Kelly Ridge Road, calculated the number of people who come to the center, according to KRCTV. She said on average more than 2,000 additional visitors come by each month compared to before the spillway failure.

“The spillway incident put us in the media spotlight all over the world,” she said. “It has been a huge tourism draw. In 2017, we saw one of the fullest campgrounds we’ve seen in a long time.”

In the month that the spillway failed, Frazier said 25,000 people came to the visitors center.

“It looked like a farmer’s market,” Frazier said.
