Va. Marina Could Soon Be Home to RV Park

The owner of a marina hopes to bring a luxury campground to Union Hall, Va., but the project has raised some eyebrows in the neighborhood, according to the Smith Mountain Eagle.

Southlake Motorsports and Marine is seeking a special use permit to allow the construction of an RV park and cabins on 14 acres on Old Salem School Road in Union Hall. The site currently is zoned A-1 agricultural district and B-2 business district, general.

The campground will consist of 14 one-bedroom cabins and 28 pull-through RV sites with hookups for water, sewer, electricity and cable.

Southlake Motorsports is the parent company of Magnum Point Marina in Union Hall, which opened in May.

John Mathena, a co-owner of Southlake Motorsports and Marine, said when he purchased Magnum Point it was with the full intention of one day creating a campground, “because the land is here and it was possible.”

The campground will have walking trails, a swimming pool and each cabin will have a fire pit.
