According to an announcement from Pelland Advertising, at the annual banquet on Saturday evening, Nov. 8, Brook n Wood Campground was honored with the Best Website marketing award, and Copake Kampgrounds of America (KOA) was honored with the Best Brochure marketing award. Copake KOA owners Gary & Cathy Reinard are veterans of the campground industry and have just completed their fifth season at their park. According to Cathy, “We purchased a diamond in the rough, and spent the next five years shaping and polishing every facet of the park. In 2014, we were sufficiently satisfied with the results of our labor to hire a professional photographer and to produce a full-color brochure that will showcase our park at the upcoming camping shows.”

A companion rack card was produced for distribution throughout the KOA network of parks. She continued, “We are anxious to see the impact our new marketing materials will have upon business. In the meantime, the affirmation that we have received at the CONY convention has been really encouraging and satisfying.”

Brook n Wood Campground owners Joe and Vanessa Leto purchased their park in 2004 and soon had the opportunity to meet and welcome their new peers from a few miles down the road, since Joe was serving as a CONY regional director at that time. According to Vanessa, “We bought our park as the culmination of a dream where we could work together and build something for the future to hand down.”

With respect to the Reinards, she continued, “We are all actively involved in our communities. We have children in the same age bracket, turning into young adults with their own dreams and struggles. We share similar philosophies, and feel that the entire industry is elevated as we improve our parks.”

The parks have a practice of providing mutual referrals, though each park is unique and targets slightly different niche markets. As Vanessa Leto said, “We like each other and wish each other all the best in life.” Carrying that level of mutual commitment one step further, Gary Reinard is currently CONY’s region 12 director and Joe Leto is the alternate director. It is no surprise that they were each honored for their professional accomplishments.

According to Pelland Advertising CEO Peter Pelland, who was called up to join the winners during their award presentations, “We are pleased to be of service to the owners of these two fine parks and really appreciate the fact that Pelland Advertising is a key component that they share in common,” recalling how last year’s Best Website marketing award winner was Copake KOA – this year’s Best Brochure award winner. He continued, “We are thrilled to see Brook n Wood Campground and Copake KOA so deservedly recognized.”

Camping Finishes Strong In New York

September 2, 2014 by · Comments Off on Camping Finishes Strong In New York

For most campgrounds, in New York, including Conesus Lake Campground in Livingston County, Labor Day weekend is the unofficial end of camping season, Time Warner Cable News reported.

Campground owner Don Bennett Jr. said every year for the past five years, he’s seen an increase of about 10% in business.

“We’ve noticed a big upturn in tent camping again where that had gone away for a little while,” said Bennett. “I really believe that with the economy the way it is, people are looking for more great family adventures, experiences, and they’re trying new things and I think camping is one of them.”

Bennett, who is also the Campground Owners of New York (CONY) president and CEO, said most of the other 350 privately owned campgrounds in the state have seen an upswing as well.

“I equate that to a lot of the different amenities that parks are continuing to add to entice parents to bring their kids out, to grandparents to bring their grandchildren out and families, so a lot of new experiences whether it be spray grounds, there’s a campground not too far in the Finger Lakes region that has a wellness center attached to it,” Bennett said. There’s a just a lot of great stuff going on at these campgrounds.”

CONY Unveils A New Consumer-Oriented Site

June 2, 2014 by · Comments Off on CONY Unveils A New Consumer-Oriented Site

Screen Shot 2014-06-02 at 11.27.02 AMCampground Owners of New York (CONY) has debuted its newly revamped website for consumers – NYcampgrounds.com – with the goal of providing a better first impression and being more useful to visitors looking for campgrounds and RV parks in New York State.

Integration was a key factor in the design work on the new website. Working with designers and developers from Rochester-based Corporate Communications Inc., CONY focused its efforts on providing a more positive user experience by expanding the “Find a Park” search options, improving overall website navigation, and ensuring the webpages were compatible and readable with all types of mobile devices. Links to CONY’s social-media pages on Facebook and Twitter have an improved look and presence on the website, which now also includes an events page, promotions page, and a blog.

Descriptive pages for individual campgrounds and RV parks have much more detail, including links for users to connect with those parks’ own social media pages, videos, printed brochures and reservation sites, if available.

The new look and feel of the website embraces CONY’s “Get Outdoors, Go Camping New York” brand identity for promoting travel and camping in New York State. From an operational standpoint, the new website allows CONY staff more hands-on control of the website’s content-management system to ensure timely and accurate information updates to better serve website visitors.

“We invite the public to experience the new look and functionality of CONY’s camping website at NYcampgrounds.com,” said Donald Bennett, Jr., CONY president and CEO. “We feel that both returning visitors and first-time users will appreciate the creative and technical updates, and find the website to be a useful tool for connecting with just the right camping experience for them.”

NY KOA Celebrates Perfect Scores

March 4, 2014 by · Comments Off on NY KOA Celebrates Perfect Scores

Bill and Anita Perry, owners of Chautauqua Lake KOA, a 246-site, full service campground located in Dewittville, N.Y., were proud to learn that they received a perfect rating for their campground in the 2014 Good Sam RV Travel Guide & Campground Directory. Their rating of 10/10*/10, for facilities, bathrooms and recreation is the highest rating that can be achieved for their campground management and operations in the Good Sam system.

According to Good Sam, Chautauqua Lake KOA was one of only 101 parks across the country to attain a perfect rating, representing approximately 1% of the privately owned parks in the nation included in the 2014 directory. Each year, 28 husband–and-wife teams take to the road in their RVs to inspect RV parks across North America for the directory, with education by a standardization and training team to ensure all are following the same criteria.

There are three categories that are rated, including: completeness of facilities, cleanliness and physical characteristics of restrooms and showers, and visual appeal and environmental quality.

Upon receiving notice of their perfect rating, Bill Perry said, “We’ve worked hard to provide a great facility for our customers with many improvements over the years, and we’re pleased to have our campground recognized this year by Good Sam with a perfect rating. We’ll always keep striving to offer the best camping experience we can.”

Perry noted that the campground has been highly rated with the old Good Sam Club directory and the Woodalls directory (the two were combined into the new directory and are not affiliated with Woodall’s Campground Management) for more than 12 years.

The park was also accorded the Founders Award by Kampgrounds of America (KOA) for 2014, which is the highest award that can be presented in the KOA park system, and was one of two parks in the nation to achieve 600 out of 600 points in the internal KOA rating system for 2014.

Located a half-mile from Chautauqua Lake, Chautauqua Lake KOA sits on 180 acres of wooded and open land, with 246 campsites, as well as rental cabins, designed to cater to overnight or seasonal campers. The campground (formerly known as Chautauqua Heights Camping Resort) has been operated by the Perrys since 1994, and is a 20-year member of Campground Owners of New York (CONY). The park will open for the season May 1, branded as a KOA Holiday Park. For more information, visit www.chautauqualakekoa.com.

CONY Goal – $50K for Camp Good Days in ’13

July 29, 2013 by · Comments Off on CONY Goal – $50K for Camp Good Days in ’13

Editor’s Note: The following post appears in the current issue of the Campground Owners of New York (CONY) e-newsletter.

With the generous help of our campers, CONY parks across New York State raised an amazing $43,000-plus for Camp Good Days and Special Times in 2012.

Camp Good Days is a New York State-based dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges through summer camping experiences and year-round events and activities.

We were touched and overwhelmed by your generosity, and with your help again this year, we’re hoping to raise the bar in our second summer of fundraising. It’s CONY’s 50th anniversary as an association this year, so we’re aiming for $50K in our 50th!

Visiting a CONY park this summer? A little change in the change box, purchasing a paper balloon, or taking part in a planned special event – any of that will go a long way toward reaching our goal. Did you know it costs about $1,500 to send one child to camp through Camp Good Days? All donations, great or small, can help make that happen.

Bill, before …

Bill after

We’ve got some dedicated – and kind of wacky – park operators – one fellow just raised $500 holding a raffle letting one lucky(?) camper shave off the owner’s long beard on July 4th.

What will they think of next???
