June 20, 2013 by · Leave a Comment

KOA and Keystone RV offer a Cougar fifth-wheel and a decade of free camping in contest.

More than 3 million total entries have been received thus far for the “2013 Great KOA Giveaway Contest.”

The contest is sponsored by Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) and Keystone RV Co.

One lucky entrant will win a new Keystone Cougar RV and a decade of free KOA camping when the grand prizewinner is selected in October, according to a news release.

The contest, which began in March, also includes weekly prizes of free weekends of KOA camping, portable grills from Weber Grills, and Cabela’s gift certificates.

“We designed this summer’s contest to entice campers to keep coming back and registering to win each week,” said Mike Gast, KOA’s vice president of Communications. “We’ve already seen 105,000 unique e-mail entries, and 3.1 million overall entries, and we still have four more months to go.”

The grand prize – a $40,000 Keystone Cougar RV provided by Keystone RV Co., and a decade of free KOA camping – will be awarded by KOA CEO Jim Rogers during the California RV Show in Pomona, California on Oct. 12.

“The huge number of entries in our Great KOA Giveaway contest reflects the public’s increasing interest in camping and RVing,” Gast said. “RV manufacturers, including our partners at Keystone RV Co., are reporting a strong increase in the sales of new recreational vehicles, and advanced reservations for the summer at KOAs across North America are more than 13% higher than the same period last year.”

2012 Big Brothers Big Sisters Kamp Keystone campers

Building off of a successful first year, Keystone RV Co. again welcomes Big Brothers Big Sisters of Elkhart County to a weekend of RV camping at Twin Mills Camping Resort on June 14-16.

According to a press release, the Kamp Keystone event will offer children (‘Littles’) and their mentors (‘Bigs’) the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in comfort through the use of Keystone campers.

Kamp Keystone was started in 2007 as a way for employees to use and enjoy the RVs they manufacture, while providing valuable product feedback to the company. Last year Keystone decided to take it a step further by inviting Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Keystone President Matt Zimmerman says Kamp Keystone is another way for the company to give back to the community. “Response from our employees and the community to last summer’s Big Brothers Big Sisters campout was overwhelmingly positive,” he said. “Throwing the doors open again this year enables us to do even more. As the father of two young boys, I personally believe camping with your family is one of the best investments you can make. Through Kamp Keystone we expect to make a positive contribution in these young people’s lives.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters Executive Director Stephanie Patka noted, “The strength of the BBBS program lies within the opportunities where ‘Bigs’ can be a positive example to their ‘Littles.’ These experiences are enhanced when ‘Littles’ are exposed to things that they never even knew existed.

“For many of our ‘Littles,’ Kamp Keystone will be their first exposure to camping with activities like hiking, fishing, swimming and roasting marshmallows. We are thrilled to partner with Keystone and believe this weekend will result in a tremendous experience for our ‘Littles’ that will last a lifetime.”

KOA’s 50th Anniversary Giveaway Nears 100,000 Entries

April 19, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Although Kampgrounds of America launched its 50th Anniversary Giveaway sweepstakes content just 50 days ago, nearly 100,000 campers have already registered to win.

The Giveaway’s grand prize, a 2012 Keystone Vantage recreational vehicle valued at more than $40,000, is driving campers by the thousands to sign up for the contest, according to a KOA news release. KOA is also giving away 50 weeks of free camping at any of its 485 locations in North America, as well as eight $500 camping gear shopping sprees at www.Coleman.com, courtesy of the Coleman Co.

“Last summer, we ran a similar contest and gave away a Keystone Springdale RV,” said KOA Vice President of Communications Mike Gast. “We had about 100,000 entries by the end of September. This year, we have nearly matched that total, and we’ve only been going for less than two months!”

Campers register for the KOA 50th Anniversary Giveaway by going to either www.KOA.com or www.KOAKompass.com.

“Both Keystone RV Co. and Coleman have been wonderful partners,” Gast said. “As part of our partnership with Keystone, for instance, anyone sending in a warranty card for their new Keystone RV will receive a free KOA VIP-level membership in KOA’s Value Kard Rewards Program.

“Last year, we provided nearly 40,000 Value Kard Rewards VIP cards to Keystone customers, and our campgrounds saw tens of thousands of additional camper nights – as well as added revenues – from those Keystone campers,” Gast said.

KOA, Keystone RV and Coleman Partner on Contest

Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA), the world’s leading provider of quality camping experiences for North American families, has teamed with Keystone RV Co. and the Coleman Co. for KOA’s 50th Anniversary Giveaway.

Beginning today (March 1), campers will be able to register each week for a chance to win one of 50 weeks of free KOA camping anywhere in North America, according to a KOA news release. Then, once each month, one entrant will also be selected to receive a $500 shopping spree at Coleman.com. And, in October, one extremely lucky camper will be selected to win a $40,000 Vantage recreational vehicle courtesy of Keystone RV.

Campers can enter their names once each week at www.KOAKompass.com. For a complete list of contest rules, go to www.KOAKompass.com.

“We think this will be a very fun way to celebrate our 50th birthday,” said KOA CEO Jim Rogers. “We partnered with Keystone RV Co. last year to give away a great Keystone Springdale RV, and it proved to be wildly popular with campers. So, being able to offer a brand new Keystone Vantage – which is now in its very first year of production – is a real treat.”

“Our joint promotion with KOA in 2011 was widely successful,” said Matt Zimmerman, president of Keystone RV. Last year, KOA and Keystone partnered to give away a new Keystone Springdale RV to a family in California. “This 50th Anniversary KOA celebration is even bigger and better.”

Vantage from Keystone combines timeless beauty with modern technology to create a new travel trailer unlike anything on the market today. By utilizing curved, laminated fiberglass sidewalls and an arched roof, Vantage delivers wide-body livability and comfort in a look that clearly stands apart. And the Vantage interior is also extraordinary–tastefully incorporating contemporary-glazed maple cabinets, two-tone fascia, and an open spaciousness that is uncommon and pleasing.

For more information on the Keystone Vantage, go to www.vantage-rv.com.

Rogers said the Coleman Co. – another iconic name in camping industry – is yet another natural partner for KOA’s 50th Anniversary Giveaway.

“Everyone knows Coleman and the quality that name brings to mind,” he said. “Who hasn’t camped with a Coleman lantern or sleeping bag over the years?”

Thor Exec Sees ‘Modest Growth’ Ahead for RV Industry

February 10, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Bob Martin

Bob Martin is “cautiously optimistic” about the future of the RV industry.

Martin, the recently named RV Group president for Thor Industries Inc., said as much during the monthly “Wake-Up, Goshen” Chamber of Commerce breakfast held Thursday morning (Feb. 9) at the Old Bag Factory in Goshen, Ind. Martin was invited to speak at the event on his predictions for the future of the RV industry, The Goshen News reported.

In beginning his talk, Martin first provided attendees with a quick timeline showing when the RV industry first hit a wall, and when it slowly began to climb upward once again.

“Back in 2003, 2004, 2005, the industry combined was in the mid-300,000 units, and these are retail sales,” Martin said. “So the industry was very high.”

Martin then showed how the industry began to drop precipitously beginning in late 2007 and continued its descent through 2008 and into 2009 before slowly beginning to inch its way back up in 2010.

“My employees at Keystone, they didn’t totally feel it, because our employment numbers went down from 3,000 to 2,000, and now they’re back up to 3,000. So for us, they haven’t been able to see this incredible downturn, because we picked back up within a year,” Martin said. “But it came at the expense of many other manufacturers. There are about 15 other manufacturers that went out of business during that period. People couldn’t get wholesale financing. They couldn’t get retail financing.”

Martin said it is his opinion that the industry has now made it through the worst of the slump, and is slowly making its way back up, though at an admittedly modest pace.

“I feel it will be modest growth,” Martin said. “It won’t be these huge spikes, because in the years of the 300,000 units, it was the years of the housing bubble. And those days are gone. I think the industry will come back slowly and steadily, but it will be a more healthy industry.”

While shipments in the fall looked good due to the uptake in RV open houses throughout the industry, Martin warned that there are some factors that need to be watched that could affect future sales in the coming year.

$4/Gallon Gas Likely

Included among those factors to look out for is gasoline, he said, noting that current predictions indicate there will be a greater than 50-50 chance that we’ll see gas prices of $4 or more this year. Increased gas prices can increase cost of delivery of RVs to dealers, he said, and can impact the purchase and use of RVs by a public concerned with the cost of fuel.

Martin also noted that 2012 is a presidential election year, which can also have an impact on the industry.

“That can affect the business,” Martin said. “We’ll just have to see how that goes.”

On a brighter note, Martin pointed to increasingly positive signs in the credit, wholesale and retail arenas, as well as growing attendance numbers at recent RV retail shows.

“Overall, my outlook for the year is cautiously optimistic,” Martin said. “I don’t think it will ever boom back to where it was, but it could. But right now I feel great to be in the RV industry.”

Bob Martin

Thor Industries Inc. announced Tuesday (Jan. 31) that Bob Martin will become RV Group president, effective today. Martin replaces Ron Fenech, who retired on Sept. 30.

Thor is the nation’s largest RV manufacturer and owned a commanding 36% of the towable RV market as of November. RV sales in the fiscal year ending July 31 topped $2.3 billion.

According to a news release as reported by RVBUSINESS.com, Thor’s six RV companies – Airstream Inc., CrossRoads RV, Dutchmen Manufacuring Inc., Heartland Recreational Vehicles LLC, Keystone RV Co. and Thor Motor Coach – will report to Martin. Martin will report to Peter Orthwein, Thor’s chairman, president and CEO.

Martin, an 18-year industry veteran and Elkhart, Ind., native, is currently president of Keystone RV, Thor’s largest subsidiary.

In other management moves, Matt Zimmerman, currently vice president of sales for Keystone, succeeds Martin as president. Zimmerman has been with Keystone 13 years in a variety of sales and management positions. In addition, David Chupp, currently vice president of finance for Keystone, has been named COO. Chupp joined Keystone in 2000.

“Bob, Matt, and David assume their new responsibilities with a history of success in their previous positions. These promotions will further strengthen Thor’s leading position in the RV industry,” said Orthwein.

“I am privileged to have this opportunity to be associated with all the great Thor companies,” said Martin. “As the largest RV manufacturer in the world, Thor Industries has much to offer our customers, RV owners and the community. I look forward to working with all of Thor’s RV companies in my new role to leverage the strength and capabilities of Thor Industries.”

Barbara and Robert Thomas (at right) visit with Kampgrounds of America Inc. CEO Jim Rogers (second from left) and Kevin Warren (left), district sales manager of Keystone RV Co., after being presented with their grand prize 2012 Springdale RV.

Barbara and Robert Thomas of Orland, Calif., found out Monday (Oct. 3) that they were selected from nearly 100,000 entries as the big winners of the “Kamping In Style Giveaway,” sponsored by Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) and Keystone RV Co.

The Thomases are now the proud owners of a new 28-foot, 2012 Keystone Springdale towable camping trailer, according to a news release.

The Orland couple was surprised on their rural Orland farmstead Monday morning by a “prize patrol” led by Kampgrounds of America Inc. CEO Jim Rogers and Kevin Warren, district sales manager for Keystone RV Co. in California. Also on hand was Perry Bates, owner of Redwood Empire RVs of Ukiah, Calif., who delivered the new Keystone RV to the Thomases’ doorstep.

“Oh yes, we are going camping!” said an excited Barbara Thomas. “We’ve always dreamed about making a big loop around the country after Robert retires, and now we can!” Barbara said her husband plans to retire from his “second job” as a maintenance supervisor for California State University – Chico this December.

“I think we’ll be hitting the road this spring,” she said.

“It was so much fun to be able to personally surprise our winner like this,” said Rogers. “They were so excited. The Keystone RV is a wonderful prize, and we’re happy it went to someone who is truly going to appreciate it.”

The “Kamping In Style Giveaway” was prominently featured in 1 million copies of the 2011-2012 edition of the KOA Directory, as well as on both the KOA.com website and the Keystone RV Co. website. Barbara Thomas’s name was randomly selected from all of the entries gathered throughout North America. They also won 10 free nights of KOA camping, as well as VIP status in KOA’s Value Kard Rewards program, which affords them additional savings on all of their future KOA camping.

Barbara Thomas said she and Robert first purchased a “very used” travel trailer to provide temporary housing for one of their two sons, but decided to take it camping this summer at the Westport Beach/North Mendocino Coast KOA in California. Soon after, they received an e-mail inviting them to enter the “Kamping In Style Getaway” contest.

Keystone RV Co. is the No. 1 selling brand of RV in North America, with brand names including Springdale, Montana, Cougar, Outback, Passport, Sprinter, Laredo, Fuzion, Hornet and Raptor.
