NCA Seeks Member Help on Park Model RVs

November 7, 2014 by · Comments Off on NCA Seeks Member Help on Park Model RVs

Northeast Campground Association (NCA) Executive Director Cyndy Zbierski sent an update to NCA members Thursday evening (Nov. 6) to remind them to speak up and contact their congressional representatives to support the outdoor industry on legislation that would provide a clear legal definition of RVs. The legislation, championed by the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC), the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) and National RV Dealers Association (RVDA), would, among other things, prevent the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from changing its view on how park model RV square footage is figured, as HUD signaled in an Oct. 1 memo.

Zbierski’s note is below.

NCA sent its first member email alert on October 10th highlighting the need for your action to support H.R. 5658. Thank you to those who have contacted their Members of Congress on The Recreational Vehicle Certainly Act of 2014. The numbers show that many of us still need to take five minutes to understand the possible impact of this new HUD memo and to make sure our concerns are heard as an industry. Here is an update as to what is already happening in just one of our NCA member states:

“In Maryland, we are already having issues with processing titles to park model RVs.  Even though the HUD ruling is not in effect until April, at least one of our Department of Motor Vehicle divisions is questioning how to title a unit with a porch manufactured on it.  What I find amazing is how quickly this has become a ‘real world’ problem.

“I’ll admit that when I first heard about the HUD ruling, I didn’t think it affected campgrounds and was more of a manufacturer/dealer issue. But then I actually read the information provided by RVIA, RVDA and ARVC, and I knew this was not a tropical storm that would blow over – it was a full force hurricane that had taken a direct hit on our industry.  With no warning, no discussion and clearly as arbitrary as Mother Nature, HUD has caused quite a problem.  I can’t say strongly enough that we all need to get involved.  It will take maybe one minute to hit the link, fill in your information and contact your representatives.  Please just do it!” – Deb Carter, Buttonwood Beach RV Resort and Executive Director of the Maryland Association of Campgrounds.

Campground operators will be able to personalize a letter to their representative and two senators and have that message sent without the hassle of searching for contact information for their members of Congress directly from the Take Action area on the above link.

By simply filling in their campground’s address the software takes care of the rest. Just click Send Message and your message will reach the right people in Washington, DC.

But every campground is strongly encouraged to personalize the letters as much as possible. Campgrounds should include how many people they employ and exactly where they are located in the first paragraph of the messages.

The most important thing, though, is to click on the link to Action Alert and send a message to Washington, D.C. and to do it TODAY. Here are the numbers as of 11/4/2014:

NCA ACTIVIST STATE TOTAL NCA ACTIVISTS TOTAL ADVOCACY MESSAGES
New Jersey 44 144
Pennsylvania 28 84
New York 22 69
Connecticut 19 60
Maine 16 48
New Hampshire 15 45
Maryland 13 42
Massachusetts 11 33
Vermont 4 12

Note: By comparison, New Jersey was in fourth place nationally this week, behind Florida, California and Wisconsin and ahead of Texas, according to information provided by the California Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds.

NCA Planning 25th Great Escape With VCA

August 26, 2014 by · Comments Off on NCA Planning 25th Great Escape With VCA

NCA_Logo_HighResRGB_#66B097This year, the Northeast Campground Association’s 25th Great Escape will be Sept. 9-11 at Lone Pine Campsites in Vermont, and hosted by the Vermont Campground Association, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Since 1990, each September a different state association within NCA hosts the Great Escape, which is an end-of-season gathering for participants, and create a schedule of events to highlight that area of their state for all in attendance.

“The Great Escape began many years ago as a way for campground owners to get away toward the end of their busy summer camping season with others in the industry and discuss the needs of their regional association to grow and thrive,” said NCA Executive Director Cyndy Zbierski, adding that the first NCA Great Escape was held at Camp Taylor Campground in New Jersey.

With the help of generous sponsors including participating campgrounds, Zbierski said the attendance fee is always nominal and most often free camping is included at the host campground.

“Currently attendees from all nine states within NCA have registered and all are looking forward to catching up with friends,” she said. “Registrations are still coming in daily by phone, fax and email. Each year the Great Escape attracts on average 85-100 participants.”

In addition to the Vermont Campground Association, the NCA is comprised of the similar associations of the following states: New York, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

This year, the Vermont Campground Association and its Great Escape Committee, led by Executive Director Peter Daniels, have prepared a showcase of Vermont’s products and places.

“We’re looking forward to showcasing what Vermont has to offer to our northeast friends,” Daniels said, mentioning the itinerary includes tours of Grand Isle State Park, Hackett’s Orchards, Snow Farm Winery, Shelburne camping area and the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory. On Wednesday night will be a dinner cruise on the Spirit of Ethan Allen.

“Although we do have a meeting of the NCA Board of Directors, which campgrounds owners are invited to, this is a social time to kick back and relax after what was hopefully a successful summer,” Daniels said.

Bradd Rubman, owner of Lone Pine Campsites, said he was looking forward to hosting the event at his campground.

“The primary reason is because I believe the northwest region of Vermont is an absolutely outstanding area to visit,” Rubman said. “With our proximity to Burlington and Lake Champlain, we are able to provide a great Vermont cultural experience with a backdrop that is truly special. Those that haven’t had the opportunity to visit the Burlington area will be pleasantly surprised with all that we offer.”

MAC Director: Campgrounds Are Hard Work

July 29, 2014 by · Comments Off on MAC Director: Campgrounds Are Hard Work

MAC_Logo_Effects_256It’s the middle of the busy summer season in Maryland, reported Deb Carter, excecutive director of the Maryland Association of Campgrounds (MAC), in the August Northeast Campground Association newsletter.

“Summer and its accompanying heat and humidity has arrived in Maryland. School is closed. Snow is a distant memory,” Carter said.

“If you own a campground in our beautiful state, odds are you’re super busy, tired and maybe a bit grumpy by now. Clearly we love what we do, but there’s not doubt that it can be trying,” she wrote.

Carter recommended that fellow campground operators should take advantage of as many opportunities as possible through state, regional and national campground associations.

“I’ve learned the value of cooperation and understanding. Being in this industry humbles me because I see how hard everyone works, how they genuinely care about their campers and see the sacrifices they make to stay in business,” Carter wrote.

NCA Distributes ‘Buyer’s Guide’ to Members

October 18, 2013 by · Comments Off on NCA Distributes ‘Buyer’s Guide’ to Members

The newest Northeast Campground Association (NCA) Buyer’s Guide was mailed out to 1,129 members and advertisers on Oct. 15, according to a press release. A comprehensive source of information for the family camping industry, this year marked the 17th edition of the NCA Buyer’s Guide published by Executive Director David Tetrault.

“There were 219 companies from across the country and into Canada that took advantage of the Northeast Campground Association’s offer of a free listing in the publication,” said Tetrault. “In addition, 61 of those companies chose to have display ads for the campground owners of the Northeast to see.”

Reflecting upon the range of advertisers, Tetrault continued, “VIP business members of the NCA such as Natural Structures of Baker City, Ore., to family owned and operated Tornado Fire Starters of Monson, Massachusetts know the NCA Buyer’s Guide gets its contact information into the hands of dedicated campground owners and operators making the buying decisions. Other companies, such as Theisen Vending of Golden Valley, Minn., and The Fry Wizard of Wallingford, Conn., take advantage of the advertising opportunity that the NCA provides, allowing them to introduce their products to the camping industry market.”

Pelland Advertising was pleased to have been selected to design the all-important front cover of the Buyer’s Guide for the fourth consecutive year. This year’s design was a collaboration involving Pelland Advertising CEO Peter Pelland and graphic designer Charles Davis. “Some of our most challenging work involves projects where our goal is to generate new ideas and to consistently improve upon our earlier efforts,” said Pelland. “For 2014, we tied together a wide range of campground-related products and services in an eye-catching three-dimensional design. We hope that the first impression that the cover creates will make it more likely that recipients will open the guide, keep it on file, and reference it throughout the year.”

Companies that are interested in becoming business members of the NCA can learn about the benefits that go beyond the NCA Buyer’s Guide at http://campnca.org/PDF/2013_Business_Member_Brochure.pdf <http://campnca.org/PDF/2013_Business_Member_Brochure.pdf> .

Pelland Launches a Responsive NCA Website

August 26, 2013 by · 1 Comment

Following on the heels of a newly launched website for the Vermont Campground Association, which was the first fully responsive campground association website in the United States, Pelland Advertising designed and implemented an all-new consumer-facing website – www.CampNCA.com – for the Northeast Campground Association (NCA), based in Stafford Springs, Conn., on July 18, according to a news release.

According to David R. Tetrault, executive director of the NCA, “Throughout the entire redesign process, Pelland Advertising listened intently to the needs of NCA and the desire to provide our members and our state associations with the best tool to bring campers to their campgrounds and interested travelers to their own state association websites as they plan their Northeast vacations.

“The new responsive site allows visitors to view the information they desire from any device by adapting and scaling to different screen sizes. This was key in the updating of the site as visits from mobile devices to CampNCA.com increased more than 31% from January 2012 through August 2013.

“Pelland Advertising’s commitment to excellence is greatly appreciated by the Northeast Campground Association as we rely on their professionalism in making sure our online presence is appropriate, functional, and a pleasant experience for prospective guests as we promote camping in the Northeast.”

The new site helps to promote the NCA’s member associations and individual campgrounds by providing online visitors with tools that include:

  • A searchable database to find the perfect member campgrounds, based upon key amenities.
  • The most comprehensive online listing of RV and camping shows in the Northeast.
  • The ability to request print directories from any member state associations with a single click.
  • An exciting new look that uses fluid content to display a presentation that is optimized for every device, from smartphones to large desktop displays.

Founded by Peter Pelland back in 1980, Pelland Advertising is the longest-running provider of advertising services to the family camping industry in the United States, producing four-color brochures and related collateral advertising products from the company’s start, now producing websites for family campgrounds longer than any existing supplier. Dedicated to serving the needs of the family camping industry, the company is increasingly recognized as one of the industry’s leading developers of social media content and responsive web technology.

NCA Launching New Website – CampNCA.com

July 22, 2013 by · Comments Off on NCA Launching New Website – CampNCA.com

New user-friendly NCA consumer website is easily accessible by a variety of devices.

The Northeast Campground Association (NCA), the regional camping industry association of associations in the Northeast based in Stafford, Conn., has announced the launch of the updated CampNCA.com – its consumer-facing website.

The clean, modern design and user interface of the new site, with simple and clear navigation, makes visiting a more pleasant experience, according to a news release.

Visitors to the responsive site will notice that it adapts and scales to different screen sizes and devices, from large monitors to tablets, phones and anything in between. This “mobile-friendly” website prominently features NCA’s 10 state associations along with each state’s individual member campgrounds, providing further value to the states as NCA members.

Designed and hosted by Pelland Advertising of Haydenville, Mass., the new CampNCA.com consumer website will be of greater use to prospective campers. One of its designers, Josh Pelland, commented, “With enhanced search functions and consumer-oriented text, this site will now provide the camping public a valuable resource to rediscover camping in the Northeast. Emphasis has also been placed upon two of the most popular components of the previous site: regional Camping Show listings and an area for prospective campers to order state camping guides.”

NCA prides itself in being dedicated to the promotion and growth of camping through networking and education in collaboration with state associations. The association will be celebrating its 50th Annual Northeast Conference on Camping & Trade Show in March 2014.
