Hawaii Storm

A storm that is threatening Hawaii has forced the closure of area campgrounds.

The city and county of Honolulu, Hawaii, has decided to close all campgrounds as a severe storm inches its way toward the Hawaiian Island chain, according to KITV.

Campers were expected to vacate all 17 campgrounds by 5 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 9).

"Outdoor activities such as surfing and hiking are discouraged, as the surf currently battering O‘ahu is extremely dangerous and disorganized, and gusty winds can cause large branches or entire trees to fall suddenly," said the County's Department of Parks and Recreation in a statement.

Visitors are asked not to climb on rocky ledges near the ocean as they could be swept away by the surf.

Sightseeing near shorelines exposed to the high surf is also extremely discouraged.
