A hearing scheduled for mid-March on a proposed new RV park development on Sky Ranch Road has been postponed and will now take place on Tuesday, Apr. 2, in Oakhurst, Calif., according to SierraNewOnline.

The Madera County Board of Supervisors decided to move the public hearing after several people living near the proposed development site spoke during the public comment segment of Tuesday's (March 12) regular board meeting in Madera.

Sky Ranch Road resident Kathy Marks told supervisors Tuesday that 244 people have already signed a petition in opposition.

“We’ve been getting tremendous support,” Marks said. “People aren’t hesitating to sign these petitions.”

Marks said moving the hearing to the agenda of an already-scheduled April 2 supervisor’s meeting in Oakhurst “just made sense.”

The Madera County Planning Commission held a hearing on the RV park proposal on Feb. 12, also at the Oakhurst Community Center, and voted unanimously to recommend that the Board of Supervisors approve the plan.

Since that meeting, Sky Ranch Road residents have mobilized to oppose the 40-acre, 109-space RV and camping park developers want to build off Road 632, about one-quarter mile east of Highway 41. Their petition says the project will “increase traffic congestion in the area by 83%.”
