The St. Joseph (Mo.) City Council saw an updated riverfront development plan on Wednesday (March 6) that could lead to massive changes on the city’s west side, according to News-PressNow.com.

The plan, developed by SWT Design, lists a number of projects which would total $92.1 million ($72.7 million of which would be public funding).

The projects are broken down into different sections of the riverfront.

The northernmost section could see an RV campground, a riverside resort and lake, a marina and second boat ramp, trail expansion and a restaurant.

Council Member Kent O’Dell, who has been outspoken about riverfront development for years, was impressed with the list, but would like to see some things moved around.

“I think SWT Design did a lot of work and they’ve got a lot of amenities that you can actually squeeze into a riverfront,” O’Dell said. “I was amazed about how many things actually were listed.”

He said he would like to see some amenities closer to downtown St. Joseph.

“I would love to see the rough camping and RV camping considerably closer to downtown,” O’Dell said. “I want to see, as much as possible, for the riverfront to be closer to the actual downtown that way we can utilize both of them and they feed off each other."
