SSI: Towable Sales Edge up 4.1% for 11 Months (1/10/2019)

Towable sales continued to show slight gains for the first 11 months of2018 as overall retail registrations rose 4.1%.
According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), results by category showed:
- Travel trailer sales were up 4.2%for the 11 months.
- Fifth-wheel registrationsrose 5.5% through November.
- Folding camping trailer sales dropped 12.1% for the 11 months.
- Park model RV sales edged up 2% through November.
Thor IndustriesInc. was the towable sales leader for the 11 months with a 48.3% share of the market, ahead of Forest RiverInc. owning a34.9% share and Grand Design RV Co. (5.9%).
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailersthrough November with a 48.3% market share, followed by Forest River(36.5%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 53.1% market share, followed by Forest River (26.6%) and Grand Design (13.7%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led the categoryfor the first 11 months with a 72.2% market share while Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. garnered a 12.4% share and Thor held a 9.4% share. Skyline Champion led the park model segment with a 30.6% market share, followed by Cavco Industries Inc. (18.8%) and Kropf Industries Inc. (17.3%).
